Who is Union? A bit of our story! |
A Fresh Experience of Faith! |
Union Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 408 West Market Street in York, PA. We are an urban congregation with members from the city and it's surrounding communities. We are a congregation who loves God and strives to share that love with our neighbors. We do this through Worship, Faith Formation, Service, Fellowship, and other forms of ministry and community involvement. We strive to be a church in the neighborhood, and of the neighborhood.
We celebrate the gifts that God has given all people, and we know that together we are stronger. We invite you to join us in our worship and ministry here at Union, so that we can use all of our gifts to love and serve God and our community. Union is proud to be a Reconciling in Christ congregation. Click here for more information on Reconciling Works.
Who is welcome at Union?
We at Union Lutheran Church believe that we are called to share the good news of Jesus with our neighbors, as we grow together in Christ. We welcome everyone seeking God’s love and grace to participate fully no matter what you look like, where you’re from, whom you love, how much money you have, or whatever other labels we use to divide ourselves. We welcome all gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, ages, races, abilities, and socio-economic statuses, because God welcomes all, and our unity is in Jesus Christ.
We believe that God's purpose for Union is to:
Share the Good News of Jesus with our neighbors, as we grow together in Christ
To help us focus on God's purpose for us, we have 7 Guiding Principles:
UNION IN THE NEWS
Union is a place that honors York's history and is also at the forefront of York's movement toward the future. May we welcome those who need a safe haven to pray and find community for another 100+ years. Here is an article published by the York Daily record on Union being a place where the public converged for D-Day services on June 6, 1944. Click Here

Worship
We worship Sunday mornings online using Facebook live at 9 a.m. You can access it through our Facebook Page or watch it on the websites homepage.
Faith Formation
Growing in our faith, and our relationship with God, each other, and our neighbors is a core value of Union. We gather for faith formation classes and activities on Sundays throughout the school year following worship. Recognizing the importance of faith formation in our homes we offer a number of take home devotions for all ages. These are a few of our faith formation opportunities.
Service and Ministries
We believe that we are to love and care for our neighbors following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. This includes service opportunities like our prayer shawl ministry, personal care kits, school supplies, food collections, and special offerings, as well as true outreach opportunities to grow in relationship with our neighbors like our monthly community breakfast, our national night out activity, vacation Bible school and more.
Children and Youth
Children and Youth are a very important piece of our faith community. Our leadership, including our Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries have a shared goal for a strong program for children, youth, and families to grow in their faith as well as community with both those from in and outside our neighborhoods.
Partners
We are always looking for ministry and outreach partners in our community and throughout the world to better serve our neighbors and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The Larger Church throughout our community and the world.
We are one of almost 10,000 congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and at a more local level, a congregation of the Lower Susquehanna Synod. On a global level, the ELCA is a part of the Lutheran World Federation
